Policies and Procedures
Coming into class....
Bell Work Assignments
Every day there will be a Bell Work Assignment on the board. These assignments should take no longer than 10 minutes. They include either a small drawing activity or a written paragraph over a piece of art work that is shown that day. It's your responsibility to complete these assignments every day. When finished, they are to be placed in your sketchbook
Sketchbooks and Sketchbook Assignments
We will be drawing consistently in class; it's the only way to get better! You will have a sketchbook assignment to work on at the end of class every day after we do our drawing activities. They are usually easier than project assignments, but you are expected to take them just as seriously. NO STICK FIGURES OR TRACING IS ALLOWED. Our goal is to challenge your artistic abilities and improve your creativity. You are to keep your Bell work, hall passes and sketchbook assignments in your sketchbook. There will be sketchbook checks every Friday. If you have every assignment from that week, you will receive a 100. If you were absent any day of that week you will get a blank sheet of paper, write your name, date you were absent and ABSENT. No name on an assignment is an automatic zero.
Sketchbook check are worth 20% of your grade.
Bathroom Breaks
Each student is given 4 hall passes at the beginning of the semester. These are the only hall passes you will receive for the whole semester. You can use these hall passes for the bathroom, locker trips or office trips. Once you have used all four you will no longer be allowed to leave class unless you are called to the office or taken out by another teacher.
At the end of the semester, each unused hall pass is worth 5 points. If you have any left over, you will receive those points as extra credit. (You have the possibility to get 20 extra credit points if you save all hall passes!
Absences/Make Up Work
Here's reality. I have 70 students to teach every single day and it is not my responsibility to track down every student who is absent and give them their make up work. It is your responsibility to come to me if you are absent or you know you will be absent to receive make up work. It helps a lot of you find a buddy or friends in class you can work together with and share information with. Any type of make up work requires an excuse for your absence. No excuse, no make up work.
Music Listening
Music plays a vital role in the classroom when we work.Since iPods and Mp3 players are prohibited in school, I usually play a CD, Grooveshark or Pandora while we are working on sketchbook assignments and projects. Music is a PRIVILEGE to have in class and is expected to be treated like a privilege. We will not listen to anything with foul language or vulgarity. Music will be shut off for the day if too much chatter occurs. This privilege will be taken away of abused.
Lectures/PowerPoints
We will have PowerPoints and lectures when we discuss art terms, vocabulary, art styles and art history. For each PowerPoint, you will have a notes sheet to fill out as we go along. The notes are to be turned in at the end of the day for classwork. They will be handed back to you the net day. Keep up with all of your notes, that is what the quiz material will come from.
Quizzes
We will have quizzes every so often about art techniques, terms, styles and artists. The material comes from your notes. Quizzes are worth 20% of your grade.
Clean Up Grade
Students will receive a weekly clean up grade. Clean up will be during the last fifteen minutes of each day. Every student is expected to pitch in and do their jobs. Each day is worth 20 points. If you do not do your job for the day, you will receive a zero.
Final Exam
We will have a final exam at the end of the semester. This exam will come from the quizzes we took that semester, so save your quizzes!!
